Contrary to popular opinion, Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexican Independence Day.
If you want to get the scoop on the battle Cinco de Mayo commemorates, you can start with our neighbors at Viva! Cinco de Mayo.
Regardless of the history, Cinco de Mayo is a great excuse to enjoy the first of the really warm weather and throw a theme party South-of-the-Border style.
Let's get started with some drinks
Super Easy Gold Party Margaritas
A little prep allows you to shake margaritas to order without any fuss.
- Pitcher 1: Combine 2 parts gold tequila, 1 part orange liquor
- Pitcher 2: Combine 1 can of frozen lemonade and 3 cans of water (should be one less than the instructions on the can)
- Prep margarita glasses by rubbing the rim with lime and dipping in salt
When ready to mix, combine 2 ounces of pre-mixed alcohol, 3 ounces of lemonade mix, and 1 cup of ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously and strain into the margarita glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel if desired.
How quick and easy was that?
Add a little sophistication with a Mexican Martini
Ingredients:
- 1 oz clear good-quality tequila
- Dash of vermouth
- Jalapeno stuffed olive
Put a dash of vermouth in a martini glass and rotate to coat the inside of the glass. Pour out any extra. Shake tequila in a cocktail shaker with some ice until thoroughly chilled.
Strain into the martini glass and garnish with the olive.
Enjoy!
Don't forget to add some atmosphere to your party by dressing in costume.
